Fundraising Manager

Posting date: July 1, 2025
Role type: Part-time (20 hours per month), remote
Open to: U.S. residents
Contract term: August to November 2025
Compensation: US$1,200 per month
First round of applicant interviews: July 14, 2025

Over the last five years, the Data Visualization Society has grown significantly. With growth we saw increased complexity in generating sustainable revenues through donations, sponsorships, and registrations.  The current economic climate for the data community and international organizations add a unique environment to meeting these financial needs.

Historically, the organization’s donations, sponsorships, and registrations have been managed by multiple DVS Directors (volunteer) and, in some cases, a full committee (volunteer). We are currently looking for a contributor interested in bringing their non-profit fundraising capabilities to the organization providing direct support to the Operations Director specifically on immediate revenue growth tasks.

About the role

Since our donations are within a U.S.-housed financial data system, this role is only open to U.S. residents.

In this 3-month engagement, the Fundraising Manager will be charged with raising $30,000–$40,000 in support of DVS operations and programs. This contract role is a key piece of our financial strategy as we continue to grow and stabilize the organization in the fall of 2025.

The role is fully remote, and while part-time, it requires strategic thinking, strong communication, and the ability to work independently. The contract begins in August 2025 and may be extended if additional funding or success metrics are achieved.

Specific duties are expected to include:

Fundraising Strategy & Execution

  • Identify, research, and support the outreach process to potential donors, sponsors, and institutional funders

  • Design and execute two campaigns: one in the early fall and one as a part of Giving Tuesday in November with a goal of $30k-$40k.

  • Document and share progress weekly with leadership to ensure visibility and momentum

Membership Engagement

  • Explore and identify strategies to increase paid memberships, including value propositions and messaging improvements

  • Collaborate with the Board and Advisory Council to leverage networks for growth and giving

Grant Research

  • Research and flag grant opportunities that could be pursued in future phases

Additional responsibilities

  • Ensuring fundraising represents DVS’s values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging

  • Coordinating with the Board of Directors and existing independent contractors

  • Other duties as requested by the Operations Director, taking into consideration bandwidth and the growth interests of the Fundraising Manager.

The role is projected to be approximately 20 hours per month for a term of three  months working in collaboration with the Operations Director, Executive Director, Membership Director, and Sponsorship Director (as the fundraising avenues are associated with these individuals).

The compensation will be US$1,200 per month from August to November 2025. The total contract value is US$3,600.

About You

You are a mission-minded fundraiser who:

  • Has prior success in nonprofit development, ideally with small-to-mid-sized organizations or start-up environments

  • Understands both donor motivation and member engagement strategies

  • Communicates clearly and compellingly across platforms (email, decks, one-pagers)

  • Works independently and can hit the ground running

  • Brings a spirit of experimentation and optimism

Bonus if you:

  • Are familiar with the data visualization community or have experience fundraising in arts, education, or tech-aligned spaces

  • Have previously helped launch or reboot fundraising programs from scratch
