Join us on Friday, November 3, 2023 for the Day of Inspiration Miniconference leading up to the Information is Beautiful Awards Ceremony. Last year, the lightning talks from shortlisted creators were a highlight of the Awards programming, so we’ve expanded the day to hear from even more creators in 2023!

During this one day event, hear from leading voices and designers in data visualization reflecting on the state of our field, sparking creativity, and sharing the behind the scenes of how shortlisted works for the 2023 IIB Awards were created.

The conference is available to join virtually or in-person at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD. Learn more about the featured keynotes and speakers below, and get your tickets to join us today! Note that in-person ticket sales end October 27, 2023 and virtual ticket sales end October 31.

KEYNOTE

Question Our Data Culture

Rahul Bhargava, Assistant Professor, Northeastern University

Data has moved from the realms of science and statistics to areas such as civic meetings, non-profits, newspapers, and beyond. Unfortunately our dominant cultures of data embed negative power dynamics and disempowering methods that weren’t designed for these pro-social contexts. Creating more appropriate ways to bring people together around data in these new settings of use requires richer examples and a broader toolbox of data visualization built on creative participatory approaches.
